Illinois Motorcycle Registration and Renewal Fees

When it comes time for motorcycle registration (this includes your moped or scooter, too) you can expect the following fees:

  • Registration: $39
  • Registration renewal: $39
  • Title: $95
  • Vanity license plate: $50
  • Vanity license plate renewal: $13
  • Personalized license plate: $25
  • Personalized license plate renewal: $7
All bikes in Illinois (motorcycles, mopeds, and scooters) must be renewed annually. The IL Secretary of State (SOS) will mail you a motorcycle renewal notice about 60 days prior to the expiration date of your motorcycle registration.

Depending on your situation you may be given four registration renewal options: by mail, by phone, online, or in person. (Note that if you renew online, you may be subject to a credit card fee.)

If you don't plan on renewing in person, act fast. The other three vehicle registration renewal options have about a four-week processing period, and if you’re caught motorcycle riding with an expired motorcycle registration you could be ticketed and fined.
