What is the state requirement for auto insurance regarding liability and personal injury protection in Illinois? Illinois
IL Liability Insurance and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Requirements
Auto insurance in Illinois is mandatory. To comply with the law you must carry, at the very minimum, the following amounts of liability insurance coverage:- Injury or death of one person in an accident: $20,000
- Injury or death of more than one person in an accident: $40,000
- Damage to property of another person: $15,000
Your insurance company should issue you an insurance identification card. Carry this with you at all times, just as you would your motorcycle registration or IL drivers license.
Car Insurance Enforcement and Penalties
Illinois has two ways of enforcing compliance with the insurance law:- Routine insurance check if you're involved in an accident or stopped for a traffic violation.
- Random computer check.
- Minimum $500 fine.
- Minimum $1,000 fine if caught riding a motorcycle while the registration is suspended for lack of insurance.
- Suspended registration until a $100 reinstatement fee and proof of motorcycle insurance is submitted to the Secretary of State (SOS).
- Possible three-month drivers license suspension.
- If convicted of a third or subsequent time for riding without a insurance, you'll be required to file proof of insurance (SR-22) for three consecutive years.
Contacting a Personal Injury Lawyer
If you're the victim of a personal injury sustained during an accident with an uninsured driver, you may want to seek the help of a personal injury attorney. These lawyers are experts in the field and will use their expertise to award you with just compensation.Post Comment for "What is the state requirement for auto insurance regarding liability and personal injury protection in Illinois?
