How do I obtain MA vehicle registration for my motorcycle? Massachusetts
Massachusetts Motorcycle Registration Process
The exact motorcycle registration procedure varies a bit according how you obtained the motorcycle. Namely, did you buy it from a Massachusetts dealer, an out-of-state dealer, or a private seller?Because most purchases come through local in-state dealers, let's use that as our example.
- Get a completed Application for Registration and Title (Form RMV-1) from the dealer.
- Bring the form to your insurance agent.
- Take out a motorcycle insurance policy that meets the MA requirements.
- Have the agent stamp and sign the form.
- Record any lien information on the form (if applicable).
- Sign the form.
- Locate the Certificate of Origin.
- Bring that document along with the Form RMV-1 to a RMV full-service office.
- Pay the sales tax due.
- Pay the $20 basic motorcycle registration fee (this can be higher in some situations).
Registration for Scooters and Mopeds
