Renewing Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Registration

Renewing a motorcycle registration follows the same process (and uses the same options) as a car or vehicle registration.

In case you've forgotten how to do this - or have never renewed a vehicle registration – you can renew your registration online, by phone, by mail, or in person. Keep in mind some renewal options may not be available to you; however, you can always renew in-person, however.

Most motorcycle renewals cost $20, although this varies according to the situation.

NOTE: Because you don’t have to register scooters, these matters won’t apply to scooter owners; however, MA requires mopeds to be registered, so moped owners should take note of the registration renewal processes.

Online Motorcycle Registration Renewal

Your renewal card must indicate "Ins. Stamp Not Needed Active Policy on File."

If it does, visit the RMV online renewal page and do as instructed. Be prepared to pay your fee with a MasterCard, Visa, or Discover Card.

Phone Motorcycle Registration Renewal

Your renewal card must say "Ins. Stamp Not Needed Active Policy on File."

If it does, dial (617) 351-4500 or (800) 858-3926 and provide the necessary information. Be ready to pay your renewal fee with a MasterCard, Visa, or Discover Card.

Mail Motorcycle Registration Renewal

Complete your Form RMV-2 or Form RMV-3. If an insurance stamp is required, have your insurance agent stamp and sign the form.

Send it along with a check or money order for the renewal payment to:

Attn: Mail-In Registration
Registry of Motor Vehicles
P.O. Box 55891
Boston, MA 02205-5891

In-Person Motorcycle Registration Renewal

Go to a full-service RMV location with your renewal card and fee.

If an insurance stamp is required, have your insurance agent stamp and sign the Form RMV-2, and bring it to the RMV.

Expired Motorcycle Registration

Don't try to go motorcycle riding on an expired registration - even it just expired - unless you enjoy being pulled over by law enforcement, given a ticket, and being hit with a large fine.

For additional questions regarding registration renewals for motorcycles or other kinds of bikes, give the MA RMV a call at (617) 351-4500 or (800) 858-3926, or stop by a MA RMV office.
