Check the Grace Period for Your Expired Motorcycle Registration

Motorcycle registration mirrors vehicle registration. All of the required documents for registering a car are needed to register a motorcycle, moped, or scooter. Difference only comes in fees, and, if applicable, emission test requirements.

Even registration renewal is similar, and just like car registration you may or may not enjoy a grace period if you allow your motorcycle registration to expire – this depends on your state (see grid below).

Motorcycle riding with an expired registration carries risks. If stopped, you will be ticketed and fined and, depending on your state’s registration requirements, this might not apply only to motorcycles. It might also apply to bikes like scooters and mopeds.

For motorcycle registration and/or registration renewal questions, contact your local DMV office.
