What is the federal lemon law?
Understanding the Federal Lemon Law
Officially known as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, this law offers protection to consumers in all states - and not just about "lemon car" purchases involving new cars or used cars.Instead, it's a broader law that applies to manufacturers who supply written warranties with their products. This Act makes it simpler for consumers to seek relief under a manufacturer's warranty, and provides means of recovering the damages as well as the legal costs involved with the action. It also forces manufacturers to follow the standards presented in their warranties, and to fix defective products within a “reasonable” timeframe.
State Lemon Laws
Now, in terms of specific vehicle Lemon Laws, it's best to consult your state's laws. (You can usually find this information on your state's attorney general or main consumer protection site.) State Lemon Laws vary in terms of how long and what they protect, the amount of time and attempts given to the manufacturer to fix the trouble, and the steps required to take action.NOTE: All Lemon Laws cover new cars, but keep in mind many states don't offer any protection for lemons that are used cars. So, pre-owned car buyers in these states should be sure to take preventive steps, such as having a qualified auto repair mechanic inspect the vehicle, getting a vehicle history report (VHR), and going for a test ride.)
Consulting a Lemon Law Attorney
Because of this, if you're stuck with a lemon, it's wise to consult with an experienced Lemon Law lawyer who will ensure your rights are protected, and who can give you the best chance to be justly compensated for your problems.Post Comment for "What is the federal lemon law?"
