How do I complete boat registration in TX? Texas
Vessel Registration in Texas
In Texas, boats, boat motors, and personal watercraft must be titled and registered with the Parks and Wildlife Department. The TX Department of Transportation (DOT) handles only vehicle registrations. In addition to USCG-documented commercial watercraft used in coastal shipping and USCG-documented vessels exceeding 115 feet in length, the following kinds of watercraft do not need boat registration:
- Non-motorized canoes
- Kayaks
- Punts
- Rowboats
- Rubber rafts
- Sailboats (This refers to sailboats that are fewer than 14 feet in length when windblown.)
Some Tax Assessor collection offices will also process boat registrations, but you should contact the office in advance to make sure this service is offered.
At all locations, you will need to provide a valid photo ID when submitting your boat registration.
Boat Registration Fees
There is a $27 fee to receive a boat title or a $37 fee if you require a bonded Certificate of Title. Registration fees range from $32 to $150, depending upon the class of boat you own.You can pay for vessel registration fees using cash or a check or money order. Some Tax Assessor locations also accept credit and debit cards, but this is left to the discretion of the individual office manager.
