Getting Your Florida Boater Safety Card

Let's begin by correcting some terminology.

Florida doesn't have a boat license. In its place, it has a Boating Safety Education Identification Card.

It sort of acts as a boaters license, but again, it's not a license, and doesn't need to be renewed.

Obtaining the safety card quite easy to do. All you have to do is take a state-approved boat safety course from a third-party provider in FL or through the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The course costs varies according to the provider.

After you've received your boat safety ID card, be sure to always have it - along with photo identification - whenever you're operating a boat that requires you to have a boat safety ID.

Additional Boater Safety Course Information

The FWC site is a good source of information about obtaining your safety card and about the boating safety course requirements. You can also find a list of providers there. Of course, you can always call the FWC at (850) 488-4676 to have your questions answered.
