The Georgia Equivalent of a Boat License

You don't apply for a Georgia boaters license. Instead you must complete a boating safety course approved by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR) and receive a Boater Education Card showing you’ve been trained in boat safety.

You are given three course options: online, classroom, or home study. Whichever course you choose, double-check before enrolling that it's sanctioned by the DNR. Only Boater Education Cards issued by recognized programs will be honored.

Upon completion of the class you'll either be issued a temporary or permanent Boater Education Card. If you receive a temporary card your permanent one will be mailed to you within 45 days.

You must carry your Boater Education Card at all times when operating a boat.

A boat safety course is open to all boaters, but the law requires only operators between the ages of 12 through 15 to complete the course and receive formal training in boater safety.
