Boater Education Card Renew License Requirements

Once you obtain a Georgia Boater Education Card (the equivalent of a GA boat license) you do not have to worry about any renew license procedure. The card does not have an expiration date. This is not surprising because only boat operators between the ages 12 and 15 are required by Georgia law to carry a boaters license.

Enrolling in a Boater Safety Class

To obtain a boaters license you must complete a boat safety course approved by the GA Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Depending on preference you can complete the course one of three ways: online, home study, or in a classroom. Any Boater Education Card issued by a non-sanctioned program will not be recognized. Before enrolling in a class, double-check with the DNR that it meets state approval.

During the course you'll be taught everything involving boat safety. This includes topics like navigation rules, weather emergencies, and proper navigation practices when approaching boats with limited maneuverability.

Upon passing the boating safety course you'll be issued a GA boaters license. Depending on age you may be restricted on what boats or personal watercraft you can operate.
