Replacing Your Georgia Boat License

If you've lost your boaters license (better known as a Boater Education Card) you'll need to contact the boat safety company or service or instructor who issued your original boaters license.

So, if you took a boat safety course, for example, through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) contact the DNR. Or, if you took a boaters safety class through a home study program, contact that program's home office.

Depending on the program, you may be charged a small lost license fee in the $5 to $15 range.

Applying for a duplicate license is important. You'll need to act fast. Otherwise, you will be fined if caught operating a boat or personal watercraft (PWC) without a boaters license in your possession.

Enrolling in a Boating Safety Course

Only boat operators between the 12 and 15 years old are required to carry a GA boaters license. These can only be obtained by enrolling in a DNR-approved boating safety course.

Keep in mind that boat safety courses are not restricted to youth. Anyone, regardless of age, is welcome and encouraged to enroll in a course and receive valuable boater safety training.
