North Carolina ID Card Fees

Whether you're applying for, renewing, or replacing a North Carolina identification card you will have to pay one of the following state ID fees:

  • State ID: $10
  • State ID renewal: $10
  • State ID replacement: $10 (no charge if you're 70 or older)
If you're applying for an identification card for the first time you'll need to do it in person at any NC DMV office. When you arrive have the following:

  • Proper identification.
  • Proof of North Carolina residency.
  • Your Social Security card. If you can't hold one, provide proof of legal presence.
  • Cash or a check to pay the $10 identification card fee. Your check must be from a North Carolina bank or an out-of-state bank with North Carolina branches.
Owning an identification card is practical, especially if you're a teen. With ID you'll be able to cash checks, board airlines and, if needed, get into R-rated movies, which is especially helpful for teens old enough to do so.
