How do I apply for a New Jersey ID card? New Jersey
Obtaining Your New Jersey ID Card
Any New Jersey resident who is at least 17 years old and does not hold a NJ drivers license is eligible to apply for an identification card. The card provides zero driving rights or privileges; it is strictly for identification only. Still, an ID card makes it easy to open a bank account, cash a check, or board a plane, which means it’s perfect for teens and adults alike. You must visit any NJ MVC office to apply. Be sure to bring with you:
- Enough identification to satisfy the state's 6 Point ID Verification requirement.
- A completed Non-Driver ID Application (Form BA-207). You can get this form at the MVC, or you can get ahead of the game and request this application by phone by calling (609) 292-6500 or (888) 486-3339. If you’re a teen, remember to find out if you need your parents’ signatures.
- Cash or a check, money order, or credit card ( MasterCard, Visa, American Express) to pay the $24 state ID fee.
