Registering Your Boat in Pennsylvania

Unlike vehicle registration, which is handled by PennDOT, each vessel registration in the Keystone State is processed through the Pennsylvania (PA) Fish and Boat Commission. To complete a boat registration in PA:

  1. Complete PA boat registration Form 336. If you are completing the vessel registration for several boats, fill out a separate form for each boat that you want to register.
  2. Fill in your name, street mailing address, telephone number, and birth date. If the boat has a co-owner, also fill in his or her name and contact information.
  3. Provide details on the boat that you are registering including the boat’s hull number and the year, make, and model of the boat.
  4. Indicate whether the boat is being financed. If so, fill in the lienholder’s name and street mailing address.
  5. Complete the “Tax and Fees” section on the right side of the form to list the price of the boat and associated taxes that are due to the PA Fish and Boat Commission.
  6. Sign the completed form and mail a check to cover the taxes and fees to the:
PA Fish and Boat Commission
Licensing and Registration Section
P.O. Box 68900
Harrisburg, PA 17106-8900

PA boat registration cards are valid for two years; cards are renewed every other year on March 31.

Until permanent registration cards arrive in the mail, watercraft owners can obtain temporary boat registrations through registered PA issuing agents. Temporary registration cards allow boaters to operate their vessels in PA waterways while they wait to receive their permanent registration card in the mail.
