No Boat License Requirement in PA

According to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, you are not required to obtain a boaters license before you operate a boat in the state.

Pennsylvania (PA) does require that you get your boat registered before you operate the vessel on PA waterways, and you must practice boat safety at all times while you are on the state’s waterways.

Enrolling in a Boating Safety Course

Training that you must complete includes a boat safety course.

Before you operate a boat in PA you are also expected to understand rules and regulations set by the PA Fish and Boat Commission including boater safety, general boat operation, and age and speed limits while operating the vessel.

Rules and regulations are found in the PA Fish and Boat Commission’s PA Boating Handbook. The rules apply whether you or fishing, operating the boat for work purposes, or using the boat for recreation.
