Notify PennDOT Regarding Car Donations in PA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) needs to receive an updated car title if you donate a used car in Pennsylvania (PA). Work with the charity or business that you make one or more car donations to in order to complete the back of the car title. There are no PennDOT fees that you have to pay to transfer titles when you donate used cars in PA.

You and an official from the charity or business that you donate a car to must complete Section A on the back of the title. Fill in your name and address in Section A to start the title transfer. The purchaser (charity or business) must also fill in its name and address on the back of the title to complete the car donation. You and the purchaser are required to have your signatures notarized at the back of the title.

If you are going to transfer the donated car’s license plates to another vehicle, contact PennDOT to complete Form MV-44 so that you can transfer the plates. Cost to transfer a PA license plate is $7.50 per vehicle. It takes about five minutes to complete Form MV-44. There are no “donate car” forms to complete in PA to finalize the vehicle donation.

After the charity or business picks up your car, remove the license plates from the back of the vehicle. Mail the license plate to:
