Completing a Title Transfer for Car Donations in PA
To finalize a vehicle donation in Pennsylvania (PA), complete the back of the car title. This is the same title that you filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) when you purchased the vehicle. You and the purchaser (the charity or business that you donate a used car to in PA) need to fill in Section A to complete the title transfer. To complete the process:
- Write your name and street address in Section A at the back of the title.
- Under the purchaser section of the title, write in the name and street address for the organization that you are donating your used car to in PA.
- Fill in the number of miles that are on the car.
- Visit a notary public to have your signature witnessed and notarized in Section A at the back of the title.
- Print and sign your name in the area labeled Seller.
- The official representative from the PA charitable organization will print his name and sign the area labeled Purchaser and have that section of the title notarized as well.
Generally the charity or business will pick your car up within a few days of the agreement to finalize the vehicle donation. Keep the receipt from the charitable company or organization as you might be able to receive a tax write off when you file your annual income tax return.
Can’t Find Your Car Title?
Of course, you must have the title to donate a car.
If you misplaced or are unable to locate the PA title to one or more used cars, you can contact PennDOT to request a duplicate title. You will have to complete Form MV-380 to submit the request. A duplicate vehicle title cost $22.50 in PA.
