What are the child car seat laws in Massachusetts? Massachusetts
Massachusetts Car Seat Laws
Each state has its own car seat laws for children. For Massachusetts, each child younger than eight or fewer than 57 inches tall must ride in a federally approved car seat. Be sure the system meets federal government standards and is properly affixed to your vehicle.Disobeying child restraint laws can result in a $25 fine for each violation.
Children who exceed either limit must wear a correctly adjusted and fastened seat belt. Whenever possible, children should ride in the back seat of the vehicle, preferably in middle position. Doing so usually offers the best protection in a crash. Also, do not use rear-facing child car seats in the front passenger seat if your vehicle is equipped with air bags.
When buying child car seats, it's important to get one that's appropriate for the child's height and weight, and not necessarily the child's age. If you do an online search for "child safety seat" or "baby car seats," you'll find many choices that meet federal standards.
