Make Sure You Have the Car Title

Every vehicle donation, regardless of state or tax deductible charity, will require your car's title. Without it there's no title transfer and no car donation. If you don't have the title, you'll need to apply for a duplicate. Or, in the case of California, a duplicate title application form will suffice.

Other Required Forms for Car Donations

You may be required to submit other documents (see grid below) related to the donate car process depending on your state. For assistance with the exact forms you’ll need to donate a car, contact your charity of choice. It, along with your DMV, will provide you with all the information you need to complete the title transfer process without a hitch.

Selecting a Charity for Vehicle Donation

Be sure to do some research before selecting a charity. Check with the IRS or your local Better Business Bureau for background information. Make sure the charity is recognized as a charitable organization. Otherwise, you may not receive a tax write off.
