Where can I get a car dealer handbook in CA? California
California Auto Dealers Handbooks
The CA DMV has two different car dealer handbooks you’ll need to download. They are:- The Vehicle Dealer Handbook.
- The Vehicle Industry Procedures Manual (This used to be called the Dealer’s Handbook.)
For help with paperwork, the DMV also has a handbook on how to apply for a dealer license, and checklists for dealerships of both new cars and used cars.
Obtaining Your Dealers License
The application process for getting a dealer license is quite lengthy. Before you begin, consider whether or not you will pass the background check. For example, if you have a business bankruptcy, you will not pass the background check to be licensed in auto sales, and you will have wasted your time renting space and procuring a bond to become a dealer.
For this reason, the CA DMV also has an Abbreviated Application for those who suspect they might not quite be ready to get into car sales as their main business.
With the Abbreviated Application:
- The cost is $175.
- The process is shorter.
