Texas Dealers Fees

The fee for a Texas car dealers license (including the renew license fee) varies according to the type of license. The TX Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issues several different types of licenses necessary for the sale and distribution of motor vehicles within the state.

GDN License Fees

The independent General Distinguishing Number (GDN) license fee is $700 for each vehicle type. Motor vehicles, motorcycles, towable RVs, and trailers each require a separate auto dealers GDN license.

The GDN license is valid for two years and the license renewal fee is $400.

Franchise License Fees

The fee for a franchised new motor vehicle dealers license is $350 if the business is a car sales and service facility. The dealer license fee is $200 if the business is a service-only facility with no showroom.

A business that sells both new cars and used cars needs to have a GDN license and a franchised new motor vehicle dealers license.

Other Dealer License Fees

If you need to add a new location to an existing license, there is a $25 fee charged for each additional auto sales dealership. If you need to request a duplicate license, the fee for this service is $50.

Payment via credit card is accepted for all car dealer license fees. However, a $1 service charge is added to credit card payments and the total license fees must be under $2,000.
