No Sales Person License Required in Texas

Texas does not have an salesperson license for car sales, so auto dealers don’t have to check for licensure during the salesperson hiring process; although, there are strict dealer requirements for obtaining a car dealer license for a business that sells new cars or used cars.

Perhaps a Representative License?

However, a representative license is needed if you wish to work as an agent or employee for a manufacturer, distributor, or converter of motor vehicles. You also need a representative license if you plan to perform any duty in the state of Texas relating to the distribution or sale of motor vehicles or plan to contact car dealers and vehicle sales persons within the state on behalf of a company that manufactures, distributes, or converts automobiles in order to line up auto sales.

You can download an application for a motor vehicle representative license by visiting the TX Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website. The application is available as a printable PDF file, which requires the free Adobe Reader application.

The fee for a representative license is $200. There is an additional $1 service charge added if you choose to pay the licensing fee via credit card. If your license is ever lost or damaged, there will be a $50 fee to obtain a replacement license.
