What are the fees for a car salesperson license in Texas? Texas
No Salesperson License Fees in Texas
Although some states require a car salesperson license if you wish to be employed as a motor vehicle sales person selling new cars or used cars, Texas does not; therefore, there are no salesperson license fees to worry about.NOTE: Auto dealers licenses are required for anyone who wants to become a car dealer. For more information about the state’s dealers requirements and how to become a dealer, contact your local TX DMV branch.
A Representative License Might Be Required
However, a representative license is needed if you:
- Work as an agent or employee for a manufacturer, distributor, or converter of motor vehicles.
- Perform any duty relating to motor vehicle distribution or car sales.
- Plan to contact car dealers within the state on behalf of a company that manufactures, distributes, or converts automobiles to arrange auto sales.
If you're employed on a part-time basis at more than one Texas company which manufactures, distributes, or converts automobiles, please keep in mind that you will need to apply for a separate representative license for each company that you represent. There is no discount offered for obtaining multiple licenses; you will be charged the full $200 fee for each license that is issued.
Also, there is a $50 duplicate license fee if you ever need to replace a representative license that has been lost or damaged. You can download an application for a duplicate license on the TX DMV website.
