Obtaining a GA Auto Dealers Handbook

In order to sell used cars in the state of Georgia, you must obtain a state-issued car dealers license. Dealers of new cars, on the other hand, are considered franchises of auto manufacturers and do not require a state issued license.

Where to Get Information

The GA MVD provides every form, manual, handbook, and other pertinent information on the Georgia Department of Revenue website. Handbooks can also be obtained at any motor vehicle office.

General Information for Dealer Applicants

A dealer license is obtained by submitting an application package to the Georgia State Board of Registration at the following address:

Georgia State Board of Registration
Used Motor Vehicle Dealers & Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers
Used Motor Vehicle Dealers Division
P.O. Box 13446
Macon, GA 31208

Car dealer applications may also be submitted electronically on the GA Secretary of State website. Established car dealers must renew licenses every two years. Renewal applications are sent to dealers six weeks prior to license expiration.

Related Fees

Initial licensure fees include the following:

  • $170 Nonrefundable application fee.
  • $250 Penalty fee for non-licensed car sales.
Similarly, renewal fees for car dealer licenses include:

  • $150 Renewal fee.
