North Carolina Car Dealers License Fees

Dealers who sell used cars and new cars in North Carolina (NC) are required to obtain a dealer license, and license fees for NC car dealers and auto dealers are established by the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Fees associated with NC auto dealer licenses are as follows:

  • Certificate for dealer license: $70
  • Car salesperson license: $15
  • Custom license plates for dealers of new cars and used cars: $28 (This covers the cost of the first five license plates for each car dealer in NC; license plates in excess of the initial five cost $14 each.)
  • Transporter license plates for dealers who conduct auto sales or car sales: $14
  • Temporary dealer markers: $25 (This covers the cost for 25 dealer markers.)
  • Dealer renew license: $70
Pay the associated fee when you submit your completed dealers license application. Dealer fees to process a license renewal are set at the same rate as the initial dealer license fee.
