New Jersey Car Dealer Handbook

The New Jersey MVC does not offer a dealers manual in the classic sense of a thick 40-page handbook full of sample dealers license forms and lengthy explanations.

Instead it provides four pages of to-the-point instructions, highlighted by an application checklist detailing every form and document needed to apply for a car sales license. In addition, the checklist also lists fees and bond and insurance requirements following initial application approval.

Also included is every application needed to apply for a NJ dealer license.  These dealer applications include:

  • Application for Auto Sales License
  • Supplementary Application
  • Child Support Certification Form
  • Fingerprint Application
  • Dealers Business Hours
  • Manufacturer's Certificate as to Agent, Distributor, or Authorized Dealer
  • MVC Dealer Certification/Signature Card
All of the car dealers forms are downloadable. Or, if you prefer, you can pick them up in-person at any MVC office.

If you harbor any questions about auto dealers, such as if there are any differences in the application process to sell new cars rather than used cars, or vice versa, call (609) 292-6500.
