Pennsylvania Car Dealers License Fees

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), in conjunction with the Pennsylvania (PA) State Board of Vehicle Dealers, Manufacturers and Salespersons sets, reviews and distributes car dealer license fees in the Keystone State.

Auto dealers who sell new cars and/or used cars and who seek to obtain a dealers license in PA are required to complete a new or license renewal application. They must also pay the fees that are associated with the particular car dealers license they need to complete auto sales in PA.

PA car dealer license application forms can be obtained through PennDOT. The state’s dealer application and “renew license” fees are as follows:

  • Dealers license fee (applicable to car dealers who are applying for a dealer license in PA for the first time): $65
  • Dealer branch license (for business owners who have more than one physical car sales location) fee: $65
  • Dealership re-inspection fee: $45
Write out checks to cover your applicable fees to “Commonwealth of PA.” Be advised that should your check be returned due to insufficient funds, you will be assessed a $20 fine by the PA State Board of Vehicle Dealers, Manufacturers and Salespersons.

Submit the applicable PA vehicle and car dealer fees with your completed dealer license application to:

State Board of Vehicle Dealers, Manufacturers and Salespersons
P.O. Box 2649
Harrisburg, PA 17105
(717) 783-1697

PA auto dealer licenses are renewed on every odd-numbered year. All licenses expire on May 31 of the odd-numbered year.
