Applying for a Car Salesperson License in Pennsylvania

Car dealers are required to obtain a Pennsylvania (PA) car salesperson license before they sell new cars or used cars in the Keystone State. Auto dealers should contact the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to get a car salesperson license application (Form 60-SPOA 2602) for themselves and/or their employees who conduct car sales at their dealerships.

As the sales person or dealer you should fill out the application using black ink. You can type or write in your information on the application. Details that are required include:

• Your full name (first and last names and middle initial) as the salesperson or car dealer.
• Home contact information including your telephone number, address, city, state, and zip code.
• Social Security number and date of birth.
• Name of the dealership where auto sales are conducted.
• Contact information including street address, city, state, zip and telephone number for the owner of the dealership
• Dealers license number.

Indicate whether or not you received a previous PA auto sales license. Respond to the questions at the bottom of the application. For example, you will be asked whether or not you were ever convicted of a felony or misdemeanor. Answer “Yes” or “No” to this question. If you answer “Yes” to the question, include certified court documents related to the felony or misdemeanor and a letter that explains what happened with your PA car salespersons license application.

Additional questions that you must answer on the PA car salesperson license application include whether or not you previously sold mobile homes in PA and whether or not you had a PA car salesperson’s license revoked or suspended.

If you are not the dealer or owner of the car dealership, ask the owner that you conduct car sales or auto sales for to sign and date the bottom of your application. You will sign the form on the line titled “Applicant’s Signature.”  Send the completed application with the set processing fees (dealers and salesperson fee amounts are on the actual application) to:
