Obtaining a GA Drivers License
In the state of Georgia, the prerequisites for applying for a drivers license vary with age. While persons 18 years of age and older do not need a drivers permit before applying for a GA license, teen drivers younger than 18 must complete the following steps prior to applying for a Class D license:- Apply for learners permit.
- Complete 40 hours of permit driving.
- Complete a drivers education course.
- Complete the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP).
Obtaining a Driving Permit
In order to obtain a driving permit, you must be at least 15 years of age, accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and pass a written permit test, in addition to a vision test. Permit Restrictions
Learners permits are valid for 24 months. During that time, you can drive with a licensed driver of 21 years or older; licensed drivers must ride in the passenger seat at all times.
