Taking the Written Permit Test
To get a learners permit in Hawaii, you must:- Be at least 15 1/2 years old.
- Get your parents to sign a Parental Consent form, if you’re younger than 18.
- Be able to supply a Social Security card, or written reason why you are not eligible for one from the Social Security Administration.
- Show a birth certificate.
- Pass a vision screening.
- Pay the test fee. In Honolulu this is $2; other counties may vary their fees slightly.
To prepare, you should take a practice permit test first. Get one that has 50 to 100 questions, all taken from the Hawaii Driver’s Manual.
Taking the Road Test
Keep in mind these points about the road test:- For minors, once you have held a permit for 180 days and have passed driver’s ed, you may schedule a road test.
- If you’re older than 18 and need to take the road test for your drivers license, you can practice for however many days you like.
- Everyone must show proof of HI auto insurance before taking the road test.
