What restrictions apply to new and teen drivers with a HI drivers license? Hawaii
Teen Drivers Permit Restrictions
Hawaii, like many states, has a Graduated Drivers License (GDL) program. Teens start with a learners permit and move up two steps until they can get a regular driver license, and they must adhere to permit restrictions in between. In Hawaii, if you have a driving permit and are younger than 18:
- You must always drive with someone 21 or older with a valid license.
- You must practice for 180 days before you try the road test.
Provisional License
Once you pass the road test, you’ll get a provisional drivers license. When you turn 17, then you can apply for a regular license. This requires:
- Filling out an application.
- Passing another vision test.
- Paying a $12 fee (Honolulu). Other HI counties have slightly different fees.
Drivers Permit Restrictions Older Than 18
If you’re older than 18 and have a learners permit, you must:- Drive with someone over age 21 with a valid drivers license.
- Practice until you feel comfortable that you’ll pass the road test.
Auto Insurance
Before you schedule the road test, make sure you have valid Hawaii auto insurance. A teen will need more coverage and be added to a parent’s plan, and proof must be shown before taking the road test.Post Comment for "What restrictions apply to new and teen drivers with a HI drivers license?"
