How many hours do I need to track on my driving log to get my license?
The answer varies from state to state; check the grid below, and keep in mind its main focus is how many hours of behind-the-wheel practice you need to log with a parent, guardian, or other licensed adult (depending on your state’s requirements).
Note that each state has its own requirements regarding logging those hours. For example, some states provide a formal driving log (that you can download, get from your driver handbook, or nab from your driver education or training instructor), and some states accept your parent’s or guardian’s signature on your application as proof.
You’ll see that not every state requires you to get behind-the-wheel training outside of your drivers training course; a handful of states accept the time you spent practicing during your training course as enough, and an even smaller handful doesn’t even require that much. (Of course, even if your state doesn’t require a formal driver education or training course, enrolling in one to gain some practice and prepare for your drivers license application is still a good idea.)
