Kentucky Permit Test Requirements
You must be at least 16 years old to take the state's learners permit test. If younger than 18, you'll need signed approval from a parent or guardian. Tests are given at your local Circuit County Clerk's office. No appointment is necessary.All questions are based on information contained in the state's drivers manual. You must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly to pass.
After passing you'll be issued a drivers permit. If younger than 21, you must hold it for a minimum of 180 days before you'll be allowed to take the drivers license road test, or 30 days if 21 or older.
How to Prepare for the Driving Permit Test
All test questions derive from information explained in the state's drivers manual. This includes road sign identification, auto insurance responsibilities, and road rules. The manual is your prime study source. You can obtain a hardcopy from your Circuit County Clerk or from the Kentucky State Police. Take as many practice tests as needed until you feel test-confident.
