Most states will send a drivers license renewal notice when it’s time for a driver to renew, and this notice usually lists the various ways in which the driver is eligible to renew the license.

Nearly every state offers drivers license renewal in person at a local drivers license agency, and several states allow drivers to renew licenses online or through the mail. A small handful offers drivers license renewal over the telephone.

Note that if you’re currently out of state for military purposes or other reasons and you need to renew your license but your state doesn’t offer drivers license renewal by mail or telephone, you’ll need to contact your drivers license agency for instructions.
