What are the MO driving permit test requirements? Missouri

New Driver Checklist
Well, for starters, you must be at least 15 years old to attempt to get your Missouri driving permit.

Before you proceed in this pursuit, though, pick up a copy of the drivers license manual (or download it from the MO DOR site). Study it thoroughly because it contains the information you'll need to know to pass the learners permit test (meaning the road sign and written tests). It's smart to take a practice permit test afterwards to see how prepared you are, and to perhaps point out areas which require more studying time.

Bring a parent or legal guardian with you to the DOR drivers license office if you're younger than 18 years old. Of course, bring the required documentation, too. That means proof of your name, date of birth, place of birth, address, and Social Security number (or a letter from the Social Security Administration).

If you pass the permit test - along with the vision test - and pay the $3.50 permit fee, you'll be the proud owner of a Missouri drivers permit.

What About Auto Insurance?

Unless you own your vehicle, you don't need to worry about insurance, as you're likely covered under the policy of a parent or guardian. But, just for your information, here are the minimum car insurance requirements in Missouri:

  • Bodily injury: $25,0000/person and $50,000/accident
  • Property damage: $10,000/accident
