What restrictions apply to new and teen drivers with a NH drivers license? New Hampshire

New Driver Checklist

Driving Restrictions for NH Teens and New Drivers

The New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles (NH DMV) mandates that teens who are younger than 18 years old complete a certified driving instruction course that is approved by the DMV.

Teen drivers, whether they are current residents or relocating to New Hampshire, must adhere to other driving restrictions, too.

Seat Belt Restrictions

Teen drivers must wear a seat belt at all times while they operate a motor vehicle.

And, with a youth operator driver license (also known as a learners permit, drivers permit, or driving permit in other states) teens are required to ensure that each passenger in a motor vehicle that they operate wears a seat belt.

Driving Time Restrictions

Teens younger than 18 years are prohibited from driving between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. For the first six months that teens between 16 and 18 years old have their drivers license, they cannot have more than one passenger in the motor vehicle unless the additional passengers are their relatives.

NH residents who are between 15 1/2 and 16 years old are required to have a licensed driver with them at all times. The youngest that the licensed driver can be is 25 years old. These driving rules and regulations apply to current NH teen residents and teens that relocate to the state.
