If you are older than 18, you will not have to get a driving permit. In fact, the New Mexico MVD will let you take the road test right after you take the written permit test, though in most cases it’s better to get practice in first. You will get a temporary license good for 45 days before your regular license arrives in the mail.
Written Test
Unless you’re a minor and have completed a drivers ed class, you will need to take a written test to get this temporary license. Study the NM Drivers Manual first, and then take a practice permit test. Look for one that has 50 to 100 questions so you can be certain all the information is covered. It will help you retain the info and pass the test.
