Do I need a ND drivers permit before applying for a North Dakota drivers license? North Dakota

New Driver Checklist
Yes, you'll need to get a drivers permit or learners permit if you're younger than 18 years old.

But, if you're 18 or older, you can skip the driving permit process and go straight for your drivers license.

Even so, you'll still need to pass a written knowledge test, a vision test, and a road test. (You'll need an appointment for the road test.) After preparing for the written permit test by studying the North Dakota drivers license handbook, you should take a practice permit test to see how well you absorbed the information.
