What restrictions apply to new and teen drivers with an OH drivers license? Ohio

New Driver Checklist
Even if you have an Ohio probationary drivers license, if you're younger than 18 years old, you'll still face some driving limitations – just as you did with a driving permit.

OH Driver License Restrictions (Younger Than 17)

You can't drive with more than one passenger (not including family members). Or, if you do, your parent, guardian, or legal custodian must accompany you.

Also, you can't drive alone between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. You must have a parent, guardian, or legal custodian with you.

And, if you're convicted of a moving violation during the first six months of having your license, you may be forced to have a parent, legal custodian, or guardian with you when you drive. This sanction could last for six months or until you turn 17, whichever happens first.

OH Driver License Restrictions (Between 17-18)

You can't drive alone between 1 a.m. - 5 a.m. However, there are two exceptions. You may drive during these hours if you're with a parent, guardian, or legal custodian. Or, you can do so if you're driving to and from work or a school activity, or if it's an emergency situation.

Teens: Beware the Law

As a teen, you may be tempted to ignore these restrictions. But, you'll face serious penalties if you do. These rules are meant to protect both teens and other drivers, and Ohio law enforcement and the court system enforces them strictly.
