Replacing a Driving Permit in Oregon

In the state of Oregon, all drivers younger than 18 must hold a learners permit for at least six months, before applying for a provisional drivers license. If you lose your driving permit, you can replace the permit by submitting the following to your local DMV office:

  • Proof of your legal name and street address.
  • Proof of your mailing address, if different from your street address.
  • $23.50 drivers permit fee.
Acceptable proofs of identity and addresses include:

  • Certified copy of your birth certificate.
  • Certified marriage certificate.
  • Oregon ID card.
  • Valid U.S. passport.
  • Mortgage documents.
  • Renter’s agreement.

Renewing an Expired Oregon Permit

Oregon learners permits are valid for 24 months. You can renew your learners permit within one year of the expiration date, without having to repeat the Class C knowledge test.

In order to renew your permit past one year of the expiration date, you must repeat the knowledge test and pay the required $5 test fee.

A 10-question practice permit test is available for free on the Oregon DMV website. You can also find practice permit tests on various other independent websites. For example, practice tests of 50 and 100 questions are available for $9.95 and $14.95, as of June 2010, through the Unofficial DMV Guide.
