OR Teen Driver License Restrictions
In the state of Oregon, teen drivers younger than 18 must adhere to the following provisional drivers license restrictions:- For the first six months, you cannot drive with any passengers younger than 20 years of age, unless that passenger is a member of your immediate family.
- For the second six months, you cannot drive with more than three passengers younger than 20 years of age, unless they are members of your immediate family.
- For the first year, you cannot drive between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. unless you are driving for school or employment purposes, or if you are accompanied by a licensed driver 25 years of age or older.
Obtaining Your Provisional License
In order to obtain a provisional license in the state of Oregon, you must have held a state-issued learners permit for at least six months, and have completed 50 hours of practice drive time, as certified by a parent or legal guardian. When applying for a provisional license, submit the following to your local DMV office:- Proof of your date of birth. You must be at least 16 years old to obtain an OR drivers license.
- Proof of your Social Security number.
- Proof of Oregon residency.
- Proof of completion of an approved traffic safety education course, or 50 hours of practice drive time.
- A completed Driver License/ID Card Application (signed by a parent or legal guardian).
- Proof of vehicle insurance.
- $60 license fee.
- Your original drivers permit.
Teens with driving permits from other states must also submit proof of school enrollment, school completion, or attendance exemption. In the case of exemption, it is at the discretion of the DMV office to honor your driving permit and accept or reject your application for an Oregon drivers license.
