What are the SD driving permit test requirements? South Dakota
South Dakota Permit Test Requirements
Here's what you need to know about the state's drivers permit test requirements:- You must be at least 14 years old to take the permit test, which consists of 25 questions.
- You'll need to provide parental or guardian consent if you’re younger than 18.
- You must score 80% or higher to pass the written test (permit test).
- You have three attempts to pass the test before you must reapply and pay another $20 learners permit fee.
Prepare for Permit Test
All of the permit test questions are based on information addressed in the state's drivers manual, including road sign identification and auto insurance responsibilities. You can obtain a copy from any DPS office, or by downloading from the DPS website.
After studying the entire manual, you'll next want to gauge if you're test-ready by taking at least one practice permit test. These can be found online and feature questions similar to those on the actual exam.
If you pass the test you'll receive a South Dakota drivers permit, the first step towards earning a drivers license.
