What are the UT driving permit test requirements? Utah

New Driver Checklist
You should be aware of several requirements before you attempt to take the Utah driving permit test.

UT Learner Permit Rules

To take the permit test:

  • You must be at least 15 years to apply.
  • A parent, guardian, or other responsible adult who's older than 18 years old must sign the release form and take financial responsibility for you (if you're younger than 18).
  • You must bring acceptable proofs of identity, legal presence, and Social Security number (or ITIN).
  • You must also bring two proofs of Utah residence (if different than what appears on your current Utah record) or proof of your name change (if this applies).

UT Auto Insurance Requirements

You won't need to provide proof of auto insurance coverage when applying for your learners permit – there’s no driving test like there is for your drivers license. Besides, most permit applicants are still covered under the policy of a parent or guardian.

Practice Permit Test

Although it's not a requirement, it's a good idea to sneak in a practice permit test or two before taking the written test. Doing so will help demonstrate how prepared you are, and can indicate which areas you should study more.
