WY Learners Permit Process

You must be at least 15 years old to apply for your drivers permit. And, you should study the Wyoming DOT drivers license handbook - and perhaps follow that up with a practice permit test - before doing anything.

When you feel you're ready to proceed, do the following:

  1. Head to a local driver exam office.
  2. Bring a Wyoming-certified copy of your birth certificate.
  3. Bring a parent or legal guardian or have one sign a notarized permit application form.
  4. Pass a vision test.
  5. Pass a written knowledge test.
  6. Pay the $20 permit fee.
Your driving permit expires after one year, but may be renewed. Contact WYDOT at (307) 777-4375 if you have any other questions.
