Do I have to take a license test or driving test to obtain an AR drivers license? Arkansas

New Driver Checklist

AR Driver License Test Requirements

Not necessarily.

If you recently moved to Arkansas and have a valid drivers license from your former state, you won't need to need to take any sort of written test or driving test. Even if your license is expired - as long as it expired in the past 31 days - you're still fine.

However, if your out-of-state license expired longer than 31 days ago, you'll need to pass the knowledge test. And, if it expired over a year ago, you must pass both the driving and the knowledge license test.

For those who've never held a driver license, you must pass the written and driving (or "practical") tests.

Appointments Needed?

You don't need an appointment to take any of the tests. But, call the office to see which hours the tests are performed.

Practice Tests

Should you need to pass the knowledge test, it's wise to take a practice test before attempting the real test. Doing so can give you an indication of how prepared you are, and which areas you might need to study more.
