Do I have to take drivers ed or driver training to get an Arkansas driver license? Arkansas

New Driver Checklist
No. Arkansas doesn't require you to take any official drivers education or driver training course. However, there are quality drivers ed programs available throughout the state, and you're encouraged to participate in them.

Keep in mind you will have to pass a vision test, written test, and driving test to get your Arkansas drivers license - and you'll need to prepare for this challenge somehow. Taking a practice test after studying the AR driver license manual is a good way to get ready for the written license test.

AR Graduated License System

Even if you don't partake in any formal driver training or education, though, you still must work your work through the state's graduated drivers licensing system if you're younger than 18 years old.

Depending on the age when you start the process, that means getting a learners permit and an intermediate driver license before working your way to a Class D drivers license. Both the learners permit and intermediate license carry their own driving privileges and restrictions.
