Making an Appointment at a DE DMV

There is no appointment necessary at Delaware DMV offices, not even for the road test to get a drivers license. You will need to call the DMV office where you took the written exam and find out when they offer the driving test. (Note that road tests may be canceled due to weather.)

Of course, if you would like to try to make an appointment, you must call your local DMV office and inquire as to whether they accept appointments.

Choosing the Right License Test Time

Road tests are usually administered each weekday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., except on Wednesdays.

The written license test does not require an appointment, either. To streamline the amount of time it takes you and to prevent future visits, take a practice test before you go in. This will help you pass the real test.

The DE DMV has a live Web page giving the estimated wait times for services. Look at this page before you go in, to see how long current wait times are to get a driver license.

The DMV recommends avoiding these times:

  • The 15th and 30th of the month.
  • Every Wednesday evening, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Instead, they recommend you come in:

  • Tuesdays or Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
