Do I need to make an appointment to apply for a driver license in ID? Idaho
The Written License Test
Your county’s sheriff’s office handles the written license test for the ID DMV, and whether you’ll need an appointment depends on your particular sheriff’s office. Typically, the answer is no, but it’s best to call ahead to make sure your office doesn’t vary. Plus, you can find out the best days and times of the week to come in for the test.Whether or not your county requires an appointment for the written drivers license test, it’s wise to be as prepared as possible. If you’re younger than 18, your drivers education class helped, but it’s a good idea to boost your chances of passing on the first try – especially if you’re 18 or older and didn’t have to take any driver training – by studying the state’s driver license handbook and taking at least one practice test.
NOTE: You’ll take your vision test for your drivers license during this trip, too.
The Driving Test
You must make a driving test appointment with a certified skills tester.Skills testers are located throughout Idaho (in the northern, eastern, south central, and southwest regions), and you can find a list of all certified skills testers in your area when you visit the ID DMV website.
Keep in mind that you aren’t required to test in the county you live in, and once you’re ready to make your appointment, certified skills testers throughout the state ask that you:
- Call between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. (If you’re required to leave a message, speak clearly.)
- Make an appointment with only one tester.
- Cancel any appointment you have with any other skills tester if you find a more convenient appointment at another location or time.
