Driver Training Requirements for an IA Drivers License

Drivers education is only required for driver license applicants younger than 18 years old.

The drivers ed course must be approved by the DOT for the completion certificate to be recognized. The approved-class should provide 30 hours of classroom instruction, which includes four hours of substance abuse education, a minimum of 20 minutes on railroad crossing safety, and information on organ donation.
