Kansas Drivers License Fees
Kansas (KS) drivers license fees are reviewed and updated by the KS Department of Revenue (DOR). Driver license fees in the state vary by the age of the driver.Lifetime KS residents who apply to receive their initial KS driver license are required to pay the fees. You also must pay the fees if you relocate to the state. Drivers license fees are as follows:
Fees for Drivers 65 Years and Older
- Class A or B license for drivers aged 65 years and older: $16 (This license is good for four years.)
- Class C license for drivers aged 65 years and older: $12 (This license is good for four years.)
Fees for Drivers Older than 21 Years and Younger than 65 Years
- Class A or B license for drivers older than 21 but younger than 65: $24 (This license is good for six years.)
- Class C license for drivers older than 21 but younger than 65: $18 (This license is good for six years.)
Additional Drivers License Fees
- Fee to replace driver’s license: $8
- License for drivers younger than 21 years: $20 (This license expires on the driver’s 21st birthday.)
- Fee to renewal an expired license: $1 (This fee is in addition to the standard license fee.)
- Driver’s license photo fee: $8
- Driving examination fee: $3
Drivers License Classes
Class A licenses are for drivers who operate motor vehicles that have a weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more with a towing capacity that is greater than 10,000 pounds. Class B licenses are for drivers who operate motor vehicles that have a weight rating of 26,001 pounds and a towing capacity that is less than 10,000 pounds.
You will need a Class C license if the motor vehicle that you operate has a weight rating that is less than 26,001 pounds. Most commuter cars fall into this category.
